Gendong Dance is a dance originating from the Province, Meranti Islands Regency. Gendong Dance functions as a means of traditional ceremonies to reject bala as well as a means of performance in the indigenous Rawa Anak Tribe.
This Gendong dance was originally an Akit tribe dance which was often performed in medical ceremonies and important events that were considered sacred. This dance is now in almost extinction condition. Because it is rarely performed because there are no longer any elder in the ceremony who acts as a shaman (pawang).
when the shaman was still alive, this dance was still performed to accompany the healing ceremony. This ceremony is used for treatment through a shaman.
