talking about Indonesia is endless, one country that has a unique art that is not owned by any other country. A country that will be rich in arts and culture which may have been known to foreign countries. One of the best arts in Indonesia is the Javanese Ketoprak Art.
ketoprak is a traditional drama / theater that contains the main elements in the form of dialogue, tembang, and jokes with Gamelan accompaniment.
the word ketoprak itself comes from the sound of prak which is the sound of a traditional Tiprak musical instrument. The traditional musical instrument when played will sound prak ... prak ... prak.
Initially, ketoprak was a game by village people who entertained themselves by rhythmically beating the mortar during the full moon (gejog). Over time, a song (song), drums, flying, and flute was added, and the ketoprak lesung was born.
Kethoprak players themselves usually consist of men and women who bring out realistic behavior. While the storylines that are delivered in this ketoprak show are also very varied, including folk tales, fairy tales, chronicles, history, legends, and can adopt stories from abroad and there are also kethoprak that carry fictional stories.
The beginnings of the Ketoprak art began in 1887 when several village youths who played lesung while dancing and singing dolanan songs, created a simple performing art.
Then in 1914, RM Wreksodiningrat who was a dance artist and Wayang Wong in the Surakarta Palace created the art of kethoprak. The birth of this art is inspired by the condition of society at that time which really needed new entertainment.
Broadly speaking, the art of ketoprak refers to the functions of ritual, education, lighting and entertainment facilities.
